Raoul Vaneigem Quotes

* "In an industrial society which confuses work and productivity, the necessity of producing has always been an enemy of the desire to create."

* "In the kingdom of consumption the citizen is king. A democratic monarchy: equality before consumption, fraternity in consumption, and freedom through consumption."

* "Never before has a civilization reached such a degree of a contempt for life; never before has a generation, drowned in mortification, felt such a rage to live."

* "To be rich nowadays merely means to possess a large number of poor objects."

* "Work to survive, survive by consuming, survive to consume: the hellish cycle is complete."

* "...people who are murdered slowly in the mechanized slaughterhouses of work ..."

* "Down with a world in which the guarantee that we will not die of starvation has been purchased with the guarantee that we will die of boredom."

Sorry you all, I got to this blog while googling up Raoul Vaneigem and posted my previous comment in Flemish + French, so here's the translation:

Raoul Vaneigem opened my eyes to the way the world really turns around. Fredy Perlman also has insights and analyses that hit me hard in the stomach and made me reach for air.

One that I rarely see quoted by RV but that is o so short and sharp: the organisation of work and the organisation of leasure close the castrating clamps for the betterment of the race of submissive dogs.

have you also noticed that you have better sex during holidays than during your "working year"? nine to five kills sex
